Course description:

This programme is breaking new ground in the region, by incorporating art and psychotherapy. It trains students to become a skilled practitioner through theoretical knowledge, clinical practice and supervision and fieldwork. This will position students well as a pioneer of the field in the region. Their experience will culminate in the writing of an in-depth clinical or related research paper. Teaching is carried out through three areas of learning such as practical work, clinical placement and personal therapy. The career path is art therapist and the related careers includes counselor, educator, social worker and artist.

Entry requirements:

Students must have completed a bachelor's degree in visual arts or psychology, or an equivalent level of training in a relevant medical, social or human sciences field or relevant work experience in a rehabilitative setting in the form of paid or unpaid/voluntary work (e.g. telephone counselling, social work or working with children, youth or the elderly). They must demonstrate the ability to discuss and reflect on one's creative process or maturity and a willingness to undergo weekly personal therapy for the duration of the programme.

Application details:

Applicants must pay a non refundable application fee of S$60 either by cash / NETS, credit card or cheque. In addition to these, they must submit certified-true copies of transcripts and certificates, statement of purpose, three references and essay. Certificates in a foreign language are required to be translated into English. An interview with the programme leader which includes participating in a brief art therapy experiential workshop, all applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students may apply online.
